CNRS - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique
The CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) is a government-funded research organization, under the administrative authority of France's Ministry of Research. As the largest fundamental research organization in Europe, CNRS carried out research in all fields of knowledge.
Two laboratories of CNRS will be involved:
- The CNRS/LSCE laboratory, which is a joint research unit from Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique (CEA) and the University of Versailles – Saint Quentin en Yvelines, which employs currently 160 permanent staff in the fields of biogeochemical cycles modelling and observation and of past and future climate studies. LSCE is in particular active the terrestrial biosphere and carbon cycle modelling, with the development of the ORCHIDEE model. CNRS/LSCE will coordinate research between CNRS teams.
- The CNRS/LMD laboratory, which is will also participate, is a joint unit from Ecole Polytechnique, CNRS, the University Pierre & Marie Curie, the Ecole Normale Supérieure and the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.
In the project ATOPICA, the CNRS will represent the CEA (Commisariat à l´Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives). The CEA and the CNRS are two legal entities independent from one another. Together with the University of Versailles-Saint Quentin en Yvelines, the CEA and the CNRS form a legally bound Joint Research Unit, the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement. In the project ATOPICA, the CEA will bring an in-kind contribution in the form of access to buildings where CNRS researchers will carry out the research work. One CEA scientist will also offer its expertise throughout the project, within WP 2. This expertise will be that of the modeling of vegetation phenology and pollen emissions.
